               *       Mycobacterium avium complex or M. kansasii, disseminated or extrapulmonary;
               * Mycobacterium tuberculosis, any site (pulmonary or extrapulmonary
               *       Penicilliosis marneffei infection, disseminated
               *       Pneumocystis jiroveci (carinii) pneumonia;
               *       Pneumonia, recurrent;
               *       Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy;
               *       Salmonella septicemia, recurrent;
               *       Toxoplasmosis of brain;
               * Wasting syndrome due to HIV

               The subdivisions of the above categories are made according to the CD4 counts as follows:

                       Categories A1, B1, C1:      CD4 ≥500 cells/µL
                       Categories A2, B2, C2:      CD4 200 to 499 cells/µL
                       Categories A3, B3, C3:      CD4 <200 cells/µL, or <14% CD4 cells

               DIAGNOSIS OF AIDS: All persons within Category C as well as all persons in subset 3 with a
               CD4 lymphocyte count <200/µL (or <14% CD4 cells) meet surveillance criteria for a definition
               of AIDS.
