       19. Prawn Culture in Ponds

        03.  Key characteristics of the      a.  Freshwater  prawn  is fast growing  species  which

                                             c.  World market demand of freshwater prawn is high.
        04.  Production guidelines           a.  Pond is prepared with lime & fertilizers, stocking of
                                                 7-10 em size juvenile  is done @ 15,000/ha  for
                                                 monoculture  & 7000 fish + 12000 prawn/ha  for
                                                 polyculture.
                                             b.  Daily feeding with fish meal, rice bran, wheat bran
                                                 and mustard oilcake @ 1:4:2:3 ratio mixture is done
                                                 @ 3-4% of the estimated body weight.
                                             c.  Monoculture production: @ 277 - 322 kg/hal6 months.
                                             d.  Polyculture production: @ 4 tons fish + 0.5 tons
                                                 prawnlhall0 months.
             Cost involvement and benefit        Net profit of polyculture : Tk. 2,50,000-300,000/hailO
                                                 months.
