the rest of the formula or name. In dealing with aggregates or clusters, locant designators are
                       similarly separated.

                       Example:
                           2. Br

                                                           C

                                                           (CO)
                                                         Co 3
                                              (OC) Co Co(CO) 3
                                                 3
                                   m 3 -(bromomethanetriyl)-cyclo-tris(tricarbonylcobalt)(3 Co—Co)

                       (c) To separate locant designators from the rest of the name.

                       Example:
                           3. SiH 2 ClSiHClSiH 2 Cl 1,2,3-trichlorotrisilane

                       (d) To separate the labelling nuclide symbol from its locant in the formula of a s electively
                       labelled compound.

                       Example:
                                2
                           4. [1- H 1;2 ]SiH 3 OSiH 2 OSiH 3

                       (e) To separate the name of a b ridging ligand from the rest of the name.

                       Example:

                           5. OC O CO
                                                           C
                                                  OC CO
                                                        Fe Fe
                                                    OC CO
                                                          C C
                                                          O O
                                  [Fe 2 (m-CO) 3 (CO) 6 ] t ri-m-carbonyl-bis(tricarbonyliron)(Fe—Fe)

           IR-2.3.2 Plus and minus signs

The signs þ and are used to indicate the charge on an ion in a f ormula or name.

                       Examples:

                           1. Cl
                           2. Fe 3þ
                           3. [SO 4 ] 2
                           4. [Co(CO) 4 ] tetracarbonylcobaltate(1 )
