The structures a re obtained f ormally by removal of one (Example 1) or two (Example 2 )
BH groups and the addition of the appropriate n umber of hydrogen atoms.
It should b e n oted that the prefixes nido, arachno, etc. a re not used for the simplest
boranes for which formal derivation from closo parent structures by successive subtractions
might seem to be far-fetched.
Chain compounds may be explicitly specified as such by using the prefix ‘catena’.
