                         Many organometallic compounds of groups 1  a nd 2  e xist in associated molecular form
                       (as aggregates) or contain structural s olvent, or both. However, their names are often based
                       solely on the stoichiometric compositions of the compounds, unless it is specifically desired
                       to draw attention to the extent of aggregation or the nature of any structural s olvent, or both
                       (see Example 3  b elow). In the examples below, note how the different types of name reflect
                       the different structural  c ontent implied by the formulae shown. As usual,  t he formulae
                       enclosed in square brackets designate  c oordination entities.
                         Note that metallocene terminology (Section IR-10.2.6) is not recommended  f  or
                       bis(cyclopentadienyl) compounds  o f  t he main group metals  ( see Examples  6  and 7).
