Upon completion of this level, students take the Public
Examination, and successful candidates are offered the
following certificates: (1) Secondary School Certificate
(S.S.C); (2) Dakhil Certificate; (3) Trade Course Certificate
and SSC (Vocational) Certificate.
c. Higher Secondary This level is of a two-year duration and is generally meant for
Education the age group of 16 to 17 years. General education in this
level covers higher secondary school, intermediate and
(Grades 11-12)
degree colleges. Madrasah education covers Alim, Fazil and
Kamil Madrasahs. Technical-vocational education covers
vocational and technical institutes, Polytechnic institutes, HSC
(Business Management Institute) attached to colleges or
independent technical training centres, commercial colleges,
Glass and Ceramic Institute, Graphic Arts Institute, Survey
Institute, textile vocational centres, etc.
At the end of this level, students take the Public Examination,
and the successful candidates are offered the following
certificates: Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C), Alim
Certificate for Madrasah, diploma in engineering certificate,
HSC (Business Management) certificate, HSC (vocational)
certificate in different trades, diploma in ceramic, graphic arts,
commerce certificate, etc.
Note: Secondary education and higher secondary education (Grades 9-12)
correspond to ISCED level 3 - upper secondary education.
III Tertiary Education In general education, this is a three-year Pass Course or four-
year Honours Course for Bachelor Degree followed by a two-
year Masters Course for Pass graduates and one-year for
Honours graduates. The colleges and universities offer these
studies. In Madrasah education, two-year Fazil course and
two-year Kamil course are offered at this level of education. In
professional education, there are MBBS (Medical), Dental,
Engineering, Agriculture, Law and other programmes leading
to a Bachelor degree and a Master’s degree. In teacher
education, programmes include: Bachelor of Education
(B.Ed.) offered at teacher-training colleges, Bachelor of
Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) offered at physical education
colleges after obtaining a bachelor degree. Also this level of
education includes M.Philosophy/M.S./Ph.D degrees.
Note: Programmes at this level of education correspond to ISCED levels 5 and 6.
