                                         cone, to prevent flexure. Three horizontal
                                         and three vertical wires were used in the
                                         focus. These were illuminated by a specu-
                                         lum, near the object-glass, reflecting the
                                         light from a lantern placed over the axis,
                                         the upper part of the telescope-tube being
