ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Policymaking and preparing development plans on education need reliable statistical
information. Policymakers, scholars and researchers increasingly use data for
formulating plans with the objective of making comparisons and for measuring progress
in a given time. Collecting, processing and updating quality data at regular intervals for
their greater reliability have always been a challenge to teh development planners.
Modern education demands updated statistical information. In recent times,
synthesising and unifying data have also been recognised as an efficient tool from the
perspective of multiple users in the education sector. Synthesis and unification of
educational information would call for unifying data code and data sharing across
different agencies, such as the Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and
Statistics (BANBEIS); Data Processing Unit, Department of Primary Education
(MOPME); and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), etc.
I am delighted that the National Technical Committee (NTC) has successfully completed
preparation and publication of this report in collaboration with the UNESCO Institute for
Statistics (UIS) and the European Commission. I congratulate all those who have
supported and contributed to this enormous task. I gratefully acknowledge the
assistance provided by the UIS for their active support towards the statistical capacity
building programme on education in Bangladesh. I wish the programme success, which
would certainly lead to an effective and sustainable EMIS system dedicated to policy
formulation, planning, monitoring and evaluation in the field of education in the years to
come.
