would be people with seizure disorders or with psychiatric
problems who can live normal lives as long as they take their
medicine.
Family members and friends will sometimes encourage people to stop
taking methadone. "You're not using now so why don't you get off
that stuff." They do not realize that the reason the person is no longer
using is because of the methadone, and discontinuing therapy risks
relapse. It would be similar to someone saying, "Now that your blood
sugar is normal you should stop taking that insulin."
