                                         set. The grouping of the stars into con-
                                         stellations and recording their places was a
                                         useful observation. The theoretical predic-
                                         tion of eclipses of the sun and moon, and of
                                         the motions of the planets among the stars,
                                         became later the highest goal in astronomy.
