                                         tion. The writer has, therefore, in this short
                                         History, tried to follow that great master,
                                         Airy, whose pupil he was, and the key to
                                         whose character was exactness and accu-
                                         racy; and he recognises that Science is im-
                                         potent except in her own limited sphere.
